Gnarlyberries Classique, 10-20/21-07 : Gnarly North Fork Shuttle mission, 25miles of ridgetop gnarlove, 15mile spin on the tarmac back to camp, 6.5ish hours of mindnumbing big mtn riding. Then a big campfire that got shut down by a written warning. Found a good groove early and rolled right from breakfast into a three hour journey to the top of Spruce. Then Huckleberry, the High Meadows and an Allegheny finish. 45 in 7:30, Looooong day of peak WV mtn panoramas. Incredible crew, thanks for sharing.

Thorpe, 5-19-07 : Good day in Thorpe with two of the IF mafia. Elk was, as always, a most excellent tour guide, dragging Buck & I around for the better part of 5+ hours. Thanks man.

Cruisin' the Curse, Summer Michaux '06 : Here's how it went down. Got the rockstar holeshot, had a blast with that on the way down Wildcat. 15 minutes later while rolling across Abby, I crunched my rear derailleur. Game over, hour hike back out to the car. Jumped in the car and caught the later portion of the race on the sweet new Canada Hollow singletrack. Took a bunch of pics in the woods there, enjoy.

Big Bear 24hr '06 : Well, what can I say? This was probably the most stupid, yet rewarding thing I've done to date. Jake & I ran in a very stacked Duo Pro class, we figured that there were at least six teams fighting for three podium spots. When the dust settled around lunchtime on Sunday, good buds Carpenter and Bucky grabbed on the top spot with Jake and me in second place and semi-local strongmen Andy and Chris rounding out the box in third. Our race was tight, 1st to 3rd gap held steady at around 20-30 minutes until mid morning when things finally began to settle out. Never thought the racing would stay that close. Big shout of thanks to Barry and Eric who ran our pit, Jake & I never woulda done it without you two fools! These pictures only show a small portion of the action, basically the first ten minutes and after-party, not much time for snapshots during the race......

Michaux Vistas, 5-13-06 : Snapshots from a ride to visit three sweet vista spots in northern Michaux. Sweet day until the rain came. Left the house around 10am, stopped at the secret spot for the view, then climbed up Ice Cutters to visit Pole Steeple. Around 2 o'clock on the way to Lewis Rocks the rain began. It let up for a quick picture and the ride back out Rattlesnake, then opened up again for the run back out the valley via the Lakes and Flat Trail. Another sweet day in the saddle......

Tomi's big day : Just snapshots from a little ride thru in Michaux. Rode from the house out thru Marsh Run, past TwirlyTop and up the Adams County side to Piney Mtn Ridge. Cruised out the logging road to Fender Trail and jumped across to My Favorite Trail before continuing out to the von Gettier Estate borderlands for a trip across Abby Trail. Stopped for lunch before getting to the lake and blazed across Loon Trail before climbing up to Big Flat. Dove into 3 Mile trail at the 6 hour mark and battled across to those damn kickers on Woodrow Rd. Stuck it smoove across Rattlesnake with the Bugman finish in order to serve my Community Service while rolling into the Furnace. Break for a Coke and a smile at the Furnace before taking it home via the Flat Trail option before spinning thru Marsh Run for the pavement finish. 9.5 hours, 70.5 miles.

April Showers, Spring Michaux '06 : So, here's how it goes. Bucky is feeling under the weather, he calls it in sick for the race, but says he'll be there for moral support. Get the call early in the AM, bring your camera for me to use. Pretty much a reversal of how last year went. That said, here are some thoughts on the day....it was rainy, yucky and not quite cold. So what, everybody has to deal with it, been here before, another race in miserable conditions. Nerves were jittery, the Monstar class had been upgraded, Pro dawgs are now in the official mix. Let's just say that the class has lost it's intimate feel compared to previous editions, we're in the big time now. And with that brings age groups, so this was my first ever race as a Vet, interesting. Qwik and dirty recap: Went like hell from the gun, the hole shot is key in a 35ish mile race. Grabbed the hole shot, figured to bang out a hard tempo for a bit and see who's left, let's figure it out early. End up catching Reuban pretty quick with Chris Scott on my wheel. Let Reub and Chris get a gap on Grave's after leading to that point, bridged back on Lower Graves, then set another hard tempo up Dead Woman's with Carpenter in sight. Sat up to slam a Red Bull and reevaluate across the false flat top. Chris kept cruising, Yozell caught back on and left me during the cold ass rain storm fireroad descent. Dropped back to fourth somewhere along Tobacco Patch and followed Reuban's wheel thru 3mile. We made some time on 3 mile, but I was slummin on Woodrow, still able to catch and drop Duvall, keeping Reuban and 3rd place in sight. Rattlesnake was a blur, just trying to keep it smoove, the Nowhere loop was a sloppy muddy maze of love and Logsled was "just enough." Unfortunately, some peeps missed a turn going into the Nowhere loop which led to an unintentional course cut. After discussions, those who realized that they cut, took a ten minute penalty (much better than a technical DQ) and unfortunately this bumped Chris back into the #2 slot but moved me up into 3rd.......should be interesting to see how the series plays out now. Just another fun day in Michaux.

Gettin' Schlossed : What a beeyooootiful day to spend on the mtn bike. Headed down to the Wolf Gap neck of the woods for a sweet loop out to the Big Schloss, bringing it home across Tibet Knob before cruising out the ridge. Lots of nice, techy rollin' ridgeline and a neat little hike a bike thru a gripper no fall zone....what a crux.

Michaux in the Snow, 12-4-05 : So, after skiing alllll day on Saturday, I was awoken by the sound of the snow plow around 5:30ish am. Okay, so it's a singlespeed kinda day then. Hook it up with Buck, Jake and Dave, the usual cohorts in crime. Bumped into and rode a bit with Jerry and Chris the MX boys before splitting off to Bear Hill for some snowy bermed up love. Then it was up to Lewis Rocks for a snack before cruising back the ridge line and sweet love descents back across to Ship Rd. Took three hours to numb up the toes and the loamy 2-3" snowy dual wheel drifting singletrack action was incredible. funfunfun.

SpruceBerries : These are the shots from Carp's Spruceberries wknd. A seat of the pants, mtn bike wknd that featured plenty of West Virginia singletrack love up on Spruce Knob. The first day we hit up Horton's Hollow on the west side of the ridge then camped along some road in the Monongahela National Forest. Sunday was the big fatty out-n-back from Onego to Spruce Knob. Unfortunately, didn't get too many shots of the super sweet techy ridgline love, too busy riding ya know?
